Hi,
Bobbie it's a term of endearment...We had family friends whose daughter had Downs Syndrome, her name was Laura...
Laura was a beautiful person inside and out and was a real hoot to be around plus she took a real liking to Monica and started calling her and everyone else "Gummie"...Laura was I believe 23 or 24 when she passed away due to medical complications and that was about 7 years ago... 
So hence the "Gummie"
