my christmas traditions.....hmmmm....guess the past fifteen year would be tradition enough....seems ive created this tradition of not decorating until christmas eve, then no presents under the tree in the morning when i fall asleep, oops everybody back to bed maybe we got up too early....can't put anything out unless im going to be up, because i want to watch them open their presents, i keep thinkin its going to be a o wow look what i got , usually its uhumm....nice ....thank you. look at the next person "what did you get?"....this it ?? geeez mom you always ruin chrsitmas.....i like them to go to the sales after christmas, granted returning is not fun, thats why i dont go hog wild and buy buy buy, i wait to last minute and see whats left....they are right though i think it has become a tradition for me to ruin christmas. my heart doesn't pitter patter like it use to when i was growing up and being a frivilous buyer didn't feel the void, made me sick when things i bought werent taken care of. anywho this year was going to be different ....is what i planned for this year and yet the tradition might just carry on...just the other day i decided to think of a new tradition....maybe ill find some reading other crushers entries. joy

My Christmas traditions, hmmmm

I put up the tree the weekend after Thanksgiving and everyone knows they better find somewhere else to spend the day...Once that is done the presents start slowly appearing.
Each member of my family has their own favorite Christmas treat, so there are lots of goodies to be made the last couple of weeks. Of course the most important are the caramels because everyone wants them.
As many of us who can, attend Christmas Eve services to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
As for when we open our gifts, well that all depends on everyone's work schedule. Sometimes it's Christmas Eve, sometimes Christmas Morning. My boys argue over who has the honor of handing out gifts each year but its more like who gets to open up something first LOL
I keep Christmas Day as simple as possible so we can enjoy each others company. Dinner is easy, nice juicy stakes done outside on the grill and Swiss Scalloped Potatoes with a tossed salad and then a simple dessert.

My Christmas traditions started when i was a child. My father dressed by Santa and at midnight (on Christmas eve) he put the gifts under the Christmas tree. My mother and my father died, but i still continue this family tradition. I spend all the Christmas holiday with my brother and his family, so, on Christmas eve i put on Santa's costume and put the gifts under the tree. My son (he is 24) still believes in Santa Claus and every year he says that his mother is not good with him, because he receives only gifts from Santa. Poor me!!!!!

Our family tradition is from way back as far as I can remember , the adults always buy one gift,(for a guy or gal ) which ever they are .Christmas Eve we all get together & the adults watch the children open presents from aunts & uncles Grandmas' & grandpas', then setle them in another room watching x-mas movies or playing with their toys .All us adults go in a room & draw numbers .(as they bring in the presents ,we number the presents )who ever gets number one goes first they, pick whatever present they want . & open it . the one that has number 2 picks a gift , & opens it ,they can keep it or take number ones' gift & on down the line til all presents are picked .then we have a great x-mas supper . then X-mas Day we all are at our own houses but , me & gramps goes around to see what the children get from Santa on X-mas.
We have a wonderful time.

Traditions have come and gone over the years. One that seems to still be around is cookies. I bake fruit cake right after Thanksgiving and then over the next several weeks (usually the week before) Christmas I bake many kinds of cookies. We had a couple that lived next door from the time we bought our house that I always took a tray of cookies to. She would a lot him several each day. God rest their souls both have passed on now and their is a new lady there. Well out of habit I started taking cookies to her. On the other side is an elderly mother 90+ and her 2 daughters. I have taken them cookies on Christmas eve for many years now. The girls hide their favorites before the rest of the family come to visit.
One tradition that ended last year is the train under our tree. We have passed the train on to our son and his 5 year old to enjoy.

A Christmas tradition in my family would be to open the gifts on Christmas Eve. Naturally when my daughter was younger, she would be surprised again in the morning when Santa left his gifts.

We have some presents on Christmas eve, then more in the morning, from Santa. We then head over to my Mom's for brunch and pig out!
The rest of the day we sit around stuffed.

When i lived at home and even up until last year a tradition thats eemed to happen was my mum would get up early cook christmas lunch but she would always drink too much and lunch would turn into almost dinner while all the adults partied, I rarely drink now and still have to deal with late lunches and over enthusiastic adults, the good thing is so does my partner now lol. We then usually visit my partners parents then we go to his grandparents.
This year i have hit the jackpot my Mum and step father are going on a holiday for xmas this year, relations on my partners side of the family arent good so we dont have to do the grandparent thing (they drink too much too and something usually happens - luckily we have left before anything has happened in the past) So my partner and I are are going all out for our 2 year old boy this year because it will just be us until a BBQ dinner in the evening at my partners sisters - yay no stress xmas. Presents in the morning and the enjoymenyt of watching our son play with his new toys all day.

my family tradition is to open our presents on christmas morning.but before we open our presents we have have a big breakfast.when i was young it seemed like the breakfast would take forever because i just wanted to rip open those presents.now that i'm older i enjoy the breakfast a lot more.thanks for the contest.gl all

WOW thanks crushers you opened my eyes, ho ho ho, me not ruin xmas every year, thats not my tradition, just seems to happen . thank you crushers most definitely enjoyed reading your posts....my tradition would be to keep my tree up til new years. I still believe in santa, it seems every year one way or another something works out so that there are gifts to give. i really do not like the shopping scene, especially malls, wasn't kidding when i leave it up to the flow of "if its meant to be, then youll get what you want" sorry if i didn't explain this properly, just know i mean no harm to anyones believes , and that my veiw has expanded in a true way, thank you for sharing.

Our family tradition has just been a seasonal grab-bag of treasures and discards, a traditional christmas feast, the tree with the works, christmas carols and chitchating...this has been pass on through the generations.
