November 25, 1984 - Several British and American stars got together as Band-Aid, and recorded "Do They Know It's Christmas". The project was planned by Bob Geldof. The proceeds of the record went to Ethiopian famine relief.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is so famous, we can't picture the holiday without it. But they did cancel it a few times. From 1942-1944, there was no parade on account of World War II. With a shortage of rubber, the balloons went to the US government who used them as scrap rubber for the war effort.
