Okay, thank you, Lady Crush, for this great and patriotic contest.
First, I want to say Happy Independence Day to all free peoples everywhere! And God bless you to all those who are not free. I will pray for all the pitiful and hungry people in EVERY country of the world, and I will feel just a litle bit guilty and a little bit heartsick all day.
As soon as daylight comes on the 4th, I will go to my garden to see how my corn plants are doing, because EVERY fair-skinned blond American Indian knows that on the 4th of July the corn has to be knee high! If it is not, I will spend the day working in the corn field. If it is, I will do no work this day -- only play!
It IS a day for friends and family, and traditionally, my family must have a feast that includes whatever is ready fromour gardens (and I sneak off and take sacks full of food from the garden to the forest around us and place it here and there for my friends, the abundant variety of wild animals who were here before us.
After feasting, we must have watermelon, eaten outdoors in the warm sun or the warm rain.
A few years back, I convinced my father to (on this one day only), to open all the gates and corrals and doors and snaps and hooks and collars and letting all the farm animals run free! To satisfy their curiosities about 'what is outthere"! Never has an animal not returned to its place at the farm before nightfall. Some of them helped themselves to some of the gardens, but so do the neighbors, so that was alright.
Some kid or adult seems to always get hurt, so every 4th, as the resident paramedic, I spend some time cleaning and treating wounds, usually trivial.
As we sit in a circle, stories are told of past holidays, and a few tears are shed along with all the laughter. Speaking of laughter, I am usually, no, always, the butt of all jokes and fun-making because I am Old weird Bobbie, wrestler of alligators, victim of water moccasins, honey-gatherer from wild bee trees, etc., etc., etc. I don't mind because it is all in fun --except for one year when a friend literally split his side laughing and had to have surgery the next day. He said the vision he got froma story aboutone of my adventures was so hilarious, he could NOT stop laughing until he had to have help so he could breathe.
Darkness falls and while the fireworks are prepared, I takemy doggie, Dreamer, who is scared to death of loud noises back to our house and we play to loud music until the fireworks everywhere are finally ended.
Then, when all are safely in their beds asleep, I silently slip outside and shoot an arrow as high as I can toward Heaven as my personal silent firework.
Luv and more to all,
royalblush
P.S. Sorry for taking up so much room, but i had a hard time deciding what all to leave out. Happy 4th to all!!!!

Well our holiday started yesterday here in the Southern Tier of New York and Northern Tier of Pennsylvania with Pride Ride 2005. This is an awesome event for bikers that benifits the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. This year over 2300 motor cycles of all kinds participated in a 160 mile ride through the Twin Tiers that included a lap around Watkins Glen International Race Track and culminated in a run down the runway at the local airport. We are not riders but we go cheer all the bikers as they pass by with flags on their bikes and toys strapped on the back. A huge fireworks display set to music that is broadcast over all the local radio stations ends the evening.
Tomorrow we will have a cook out with friends and family and then either take in another fireworks show locally or watch the Boston or New York City fireworks on TV
Happy 4th of July eveyrone!

Happy 4th of July all! Have you ever noticed how Canada's national anthem sounds a lot like America's? Anyway, 4th of July is family day, barbaquing and swimming, and sweating for that matter, (Arizona). Usually the first Monsoon storm hits by now, and fireworks displays are postponed most years. This year however, we have not had a storm yet. To me, thunderstorms are the best fireworks, intense and powerful, destructive yet procreative and replenishing. Nothing like walking in the summer nights rain, after a long hot day of playing frisbee and fishing.

Well this year for the 4th of July. We are now living where my boyfriend, grew up, Same ole people still live here. An every year they have a major fireworks Show. {i.e. they neighbors have an ongoing tradiotion, Of whos Fireworks are the best}. Let me tell you it's as good as the ones that are on T.V. Plus even better I have a front row seat LOL, The actual time for the fireworks display, is about 1-2 hours long. Awsome Time this year I had. Plus prior to foreworks. Its a street/ blockparty {it is a culdisac? about 18 houses } all day event picnic, food, beer, and a bunch FUN.
So thats my JULY 4th 2005 Celebration

id like to have friends over and cook out, have lots and lots of food,
games for the kids to keep them busy and the adults would relax and rest up for the lighting of the ........fireworks.........which i dread......its fine to watch organized fireworks the city or whomever put on, but the fireworks that every neighbor and their friends and their families buy out at the reservation........those i can do without.......and this year i had to do with them.......hope that made sense i think im still in shock from the dangerous fourth i encountered ....no one got hurt that i know of, though many malfunctioning ones, and ones that werent properly grounded and braced fell on the side and continually shot those fireballs and flare type sprays, whistling crackley sparks, going in circles on their sides, so it would shoot then rotate to let another off , not into the sky but right in to houses and people and cars.....i was not impressed, quite peaved...
wow thanks for allo0wing me to vent there for a moment ....
hope everyone had a safe and happy fourth of the july

My husband always cooks ribs on the grill and they are GOOD. It's in honor of his deceased brother who used to do the same.
We live on a hill out in the country and I can pretty much see fireworks anywhere I want to look. They started on Friday night and were rained out mostly here last night.
Almost always rains here on the 4th. I was glad. My garden and field crops were glad.
My dog was not happy this weekend. He spends the nights under the bed because the fireworks make him an unconsolible nervous wreck. Unfortunately, he'll have to deal with it again next week because what was cancelled last night because of rain will go off next week.
I hope everyone had a safe and happy weekend!
