Traded to the New York Mets in May 1963 Jimmy received national attention when he celebrated his 100th major league home run on June 23, 1963 by running backwards around the bases. When the Mets released Piersall two days later, manager Casey Stengel, who had been the most colorful Met until Jimmy’s arrival, told the media, “There’s only room for one clown on this team.”

A fourth out is a legal out made by the defense after three outs in a half-inning already have been recorded. According to the Rule 7.10(d) of the Official Baseball Rules, the third out does not cause the ball to become dead. If the fielders make a subsequent out that prevents a run from scoring, this out will supersede the apparent third out, thus becoming the recorded third out. For statistical purposes, the apparent third out is "undone" and the fourth out's result is recorded instead.

Many major league baseball players, including Moises Alou, Jorge Posada, and Kerry Wood, have admitted that they pee on their own hands during baseball season to “toughen” their grip.
