A fourth out is a legal out made by the defense after three outs in a half-inning already have been recorded. According to the Rule 7.10(d) of the Official Baseball Rules, the third out does not cause the ball to become dead. If the fielders make a subsequent out that prevents a run from scoring, this out will supersede the apparent third out, thus becoming the recorded third out. For statistical purposes, the apparent third out is "undone" and the fourth out's result is recorded instead.

Baltimore Orioles shortstop Cal Ripken, Jr. didn't miss a game in 16 years. He played in 2,632 consecutive games from April 30, 1982 to Sept. 19, 1998.

Baseball stars from the National League and the American League played the first All-Star Game in 1933. The National League has won 43 of the 84 games. The game ended in a tie twice. In 1961 rain in Boston prevented extra innings and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. And in 2002, the game went 11 innings with the score knotted at seven before it was finally called off due to a lack of pitchers.

During World War II, the U.S. military designed a grenade to be the size and weight of a baseball, since “any young American man should be able to properly throw it.”
Nick Maddox played for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1907-1910. At the age of 20 years and ten months, he became the youngest pitcher ever to throw a no-hitter in major league history.
He is also my husbands grandfather on his mothers side!!

Cool Jaime!!
In the mid-1800s, you could be put out between the bases by having the ball thrown directly at you. Players were resistant when the rule was changed — “patching,” as it was known, was an important and masculine part of the game.
